Tool Tips

Three cross head screws ask an allen key if his company's solution will work for them. He says yes, while spouting a lot of mumbo jumbo
The allen key leaves, watched by a waiting hammer, bottle opener and screwdriver. The screws confer and concede they don't know he was on about but he was so confident they may not even need to see the others

Who's most to blame for a poor buying decision? Unscrupulous vendors who'll sell you the moon? Or unwary customers who don't really know what they want? There's no justification for mis-selling, but no solution is perfect and vendors only have one product to sell, so it's up to you to do your own legwork when evaluating whether a particular solution works for you.

How can you improve the buying process?

📋 Have clear, prioritised requirements in mind before you talk to vendors
🧑‍💻 Rather than a generic sales pitch, ask them to demo specific relevant scenarios or talk to other customers who are using their product in a similar way
💋 KISS (keep it simple). Having several products that each do their individual job well is often better than one multi-purpose solution that does lots of things poorly
